While one most certainly could design a custom DDS synthesizer with a microcontroller and an R2R ladder DAC, it would be far from being the optimal commercial design approach. That being said, there is endless amount of theory to appreciate about any DDS design, or even the signal generator on your bench.
The goal of this blog is to provide simple design examples, each with a long-winded explanation served “À la carte”. A complete understanding of the theory should not be required to reconstructed the design examples on your own. The theory is provided in a hope to develop an intuitive feeling for how things operate.
